We aren’t homeless!

After looking at 14 apartments in person, plus a hundred more online, we moved in to the very first place we looked at. Good thing we looked at so many! I think we both had major FOMO so we felt like we had to look at a bunch of places, and we were spoiled by our perfect apartment in the perfect place in SF and wanted to find the equivalent in Nairobi. But since we’re only here for eight and a half more months we really didn’t need to spend so much time trying to find that gem.

Our new apartment comes very close to being perfect. It has everything. Except internet and an elevator, but we’re working on it. The internet not the elevator. It’s fully furnished with two bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a washer dryer, 2 balconies, hot water, and plenty of closet storage space for all the junk in our 5 checked bags. We have yet to fully unpack, but it feels great to have a place we can settle in to. We also haven’t gone grocery shopping yet so we’ve had to go out to dinner every night. Including our Valentines Day date at an all you can eat Brazilian BBQ place! It was wonderful. We won’t be able to unpack or go grocery shopping this weekend because we are on the train to Mombasa right now!

It’s a four hour train ride from Nairobi to the beach city Mombasa and Bill’s work was kind enough to have me join them on this work retreat. They’ll be doing team building stuff and I’ll be doing beach time. I’ll join them for volleyball, dinner and karaoke though!

The next post will be all about Mombasa including a sentence about how I saw zebras, giraffes, antelope, and wildebeests from the train window!
